Music and Poetry Programs for Libraries
|
Children's singer, songwriter, author, and poet Eric Ode uses American Sign Language and other hand motions, body movement, fingerplays, children's books, poems, puppets, and props to create programs sure to teach, engage, and entertain. The following programs have been designed especially for the library setting.

Raccoon Tunes and Possum Tales

As we're crawling into bed, other critters in the neighborhood are just beginning to stir. Eric Ode's Rock Around the World Mystery
(Created especially for the 2011 Summer Reading Series)
There's a musical mystery to solve, and Eric's good buddy, Benjamin Dog, is on the case. With his Time Traveling Transportamatic, Benjamin zips from Asia to Australia, from Africa to Argentina, reporting back to Eric and everyone at the library through his high-resolution, 3-D, flat-screen monitor (which oddly looks a lot like a cardboard box). High participation music, puppets, and books from around the world make this a "One World, Many Stories" adventure! (For ages 5 to 11)

Yee Haw! - A Wild West Music and Poetry Concert for Kids
We're singing in the saddle! It's a high-participation music and poetry concert with popular children's singer, songwriter, and poet Eric Ode. The author of the hilarious collection of cowboy poems Tall Tales of the Wild West (And a Few Short Ones) and the recipient of five Parents' Choice Awards, Eric will be joined by that crabby tabby Scratch, the Barn Cat for a dusty-trails duet. Props, puppets, sing-alongs, and hand motions create a knee-slapping concert. For ages 4 to 10.

You and Me and ABC -
An Early Literacy concert for young children and their caregivers
With simple songs, musical games, fingerplays, and movement activities, we're building Early Literacy skills in a positive, interactive, and fun setting. Snuggle up on the carpet. Eric uses puppets, guitar, flannel board, and other props to build vocabulary and letter knowledge and to create a pleasant time of being together.

Welcome to one wonderfully wacky farm! Cows climb trees, goats somersault, and chickens lay scrambled eggs. National award winning singer, songwriter, and poet, Eric Ode, leads the fun! And coming along for the ride is none other than that crabby tabby himself, Scratch, the barn cat. American Sign Language and other hand motions and movement, puppets and props, and a favorite children's book or two make this program a tail-wagging good time!

Young children and families welcome! It's a festival of springtime songs and stories - some well known and well loved, and many brand new. Hand motions, fingerplays, flannel board, and other props, puppets, and activities help to create an uplifting and interactive program.

Children's Books - A Celebration in Song
We're celebrating children's books! Many wonderful picture books have been illustrated to popular sing-along songs, and many others are songs waiting to happen. Hand motions, movement songs, puppets, rhythm instruments, and Eric's Amazing Book Machine create a high-participation songfest for young children and their caregivers.

Songs and Stories of the Lost Knight
With the help of Eric's "too small" dragon puppet, Sniffles, we'll be following the misadventures of the Lost Knight. This program, created especially for the King County Library System's 2005 Summer Reading Series, uses highly interactive music and poems, storybooks, a giant gameboard map, and other props to chart the wayward knight's progress in his quest for home.

Fees: $300.00 per program. Programs further than 2 hours from the Seattle/Tacoma area may require additional travel expense. When space is limited, a second program back-to-back with the first may be scheduled for an additional fee of $150.00. Sound system and all other equipment is provided.
Libraries outside of Washington State: Ask me about program opportunities for libraries outside of Washington State. This becomes especially do-able if we can line up programs with a few branches in one general area or if the visit can be combined with a school's author visit or similar event in the area.
